YAYB is very important to me. It is important to me because I need my GED so that I can go to college. As of right now YouthBuild is the only option that I have to continue my education. Without this program I would be just another kid from my block doing nothing with my life.

I didn’t finish high school because I didn’t have motivation. I would cut class for entire days, and during the days that I would go to class, I would leave because I didn’t understand the class work materials. I now have a second chance going to school at YouthBuild and I can’t mess it up.

My cousin, who graduated from YouthBuild, told me about the program and the wonderful experiences he had while he was enrolled at the school. At first I thought it was just a place to get my GED, but now I know it’s much more than that. YouthBuild teaches young teens construction skills which we use to help build affordable homes for the community. The program also pays you a stipend for coming to school; to be paid to go to school and help rebuild your community is absolutely amazing to me. I’m actually really excited because YouthBuild also offers scholarships to go to college, and now I’m one step closer to my dream. By coming to YouthBuild I have realized how important the program is within the community. People who graduated from this program have changed their lives for the better. YouthBuild not only gives kids who need their GED an opportunity at obtaining it, but the program keeps them off the streets and from doing bad things. The atmosphere at Youth Action YouthBuild makes me want to go to class everyday and want to be on time and be focused.

Before YouthBuild I never cared about school, but now I want to get my GED and go to college. I am determined to major in engineering and become an electrical engineer. I actually have perfect attendance, and it feels good to say that I’ve achieved such a milestone. The staff at YouthBuild make me want to come to school, they are like my family. Without YouthBuild I would have been doing nothing with my life, but now I have goals and I want to make something of myself.
